A “watershed” between territories of fans of two baseball teams.

In 2006, researchers from Connecticut’s Quinnipiac University set out to define the borderline
between baseball fans loyal to the New York
Yankees and fans loyal to the Boston Red Sox.

Research
techniques included interviews, checking sales of baseball caps and other merchandise with team logos,
 and even sales
of locally made cookies with the different teams’ logos.

Rocky
Hill, Connecticut,
is the midpoint between the teams’ homes
of Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York, and Fenway Park in Boston,
but the dividing line of team loyalties was found to
lie slightly south of it.

The choice of a boundary line simplifies
the landscape,
however, making two distinct areas instead of
what is probably two overlapping areas of intensity.

Do you
think there are no Red Sox fans in New York and no Yankees fans in Boston?
