콜로라도는 원래 자연상태로 흐르면 미국에서 멕시코를 거쳐 태평양으로 흘러나가게 되어 있습니다.

수자원 확보를 위해 미국은 멕시코로 흐르기 이전에 미리 유역을 변경시켜 위의 표현대로

'watered by canals fed from the colorado river.' 합니다.
