stagnant ice위에 나타나는 'doughnuts'

 중력에 의해 이동하는 Active ice와 달리 제자리 서 있는 Stagnant ice는 일명 'Dead ice"라고도 불립니다.

이런 Dead ice는 천천히 제자리에서 녹기 때문에 Stagnation 지형들을 만들어냅니다.

 

 

일명 '도넛'으로 알려진 puckered lips의 형성과정을 알아보겠습니다.

 

puckered lips란 이런 것을 말합니다.

입술을 살짝 오무려서 동그랗게 만드는 것을 puckered lips라고 합니다.

 

 

 

빙하 퇴적지형에서도 이런 지형이 나타납니다.

 

 

Formation of a “doughnut.” Three stages in the development of a “doughnut” in dead-ice moraine. Sediment fills a hole in the low ice (but ice exists beneath the hole). As the glacier melts, the sediment that had filled the hole slumps down, on top of the ice beneath it (which had not melted, because it is insulated by the material on top). Eventually when the remaining ice finally melts, what was an ice-cored mound of sediment now has a depression in the center, where the ice had been. 1-20-2015
